“Never let the truth get in the way of a good story.” - M. Twain
A True Story:
A data scientist, a tennis star, and an FWF rep walk into a bar on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. There is a horse bartending behind the rail, and they think to themselves, "Why the long face?". But seriously, college was the perfect meeting ground for these 3 quick-witted, East Coasters who would become fast and furious friends. The next step, post college graduation, was obvious for anyone who gets it - Go West, young people!
They settled nicely into San Francisco living, growing their careers by leaps and bounds, and sharing a house and a highly energetic dog named Ginger together. Camping trips, outdoor fun, and urban adventures ruled the day while their friendship grew and grew over the next 8 years. Then another great thing happened: A marriage proposal, and she said YES!!
Next:
Some house hunting started….first in Marin, then some in San Francisco, and while their lifetime friendship was clearly on track….Where would be the Where? There would be 2 distinct and separate households to be sure, offers were made without success, and then The Perfect Duplex came along….Whoa, they could still potentially live under the same roof with their own living space, but guess what? Their solid offer was countered 10% over the asking price (after 30 days of zero offers) by the seller. A couple of weeks went by, and independent searches brought into focus two single-family homes that were pretty perfect for each, and just a 6-minute drive away. And it turns out that the same Family owned both of the houses For Sale.
With a little bit of luck and a well crafted letter to the Seller, the engaged couple won a home (over 9 other bids),that has a level, soccer field sized back yard for Ginger, an awesome built in play structure for the future, and parking for 4 right sized cars - pretty dreamy. Their roomie had fired a pre-emptive offer @ Glen Park View Home - which received 5 offers on the offer date…some savvy, last minute negotiations and emphasis on this ‘ family to family ‘ transfer miraculously won the day.
My favorite part of these extraordinary events was that during the escrow period, the engaged couple got married, and better yet their roomie officiated their hilltop wedding! What a cool and memorable way to celebrate your first SF home purchase(s). I am truly honored to have been a part of it, and know that these great people have many happy years ahead of them.
