A view of Randall Museum in San Francisco's Corona Heights

Corona Heights

WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD

Corona Heights often considered part of the Castro and the Upper Market area, stretches between Buena Vista Park and Eureka Valley. The neighborhood initially formed around a quarry and brick factory that stood at the top of what is known as Rock Hill. Today, Corona Heights Park, a large open space with panoramic views of San Francisco and the bay area, now stands in place of the old quarry.

Because of the quarry, streets were cut out of the dense bedrock hill to enable vehicle access to the area. The carved-out roads led to housing opportunities and reflect the distinct hillside architecture seen today.

SIGHTS. CULTURE. VIBE.

The small, affluent neighborhood of Corona Heights offers steep, narrow, and quiet streets – providing a unique oasis from the Castro and bustling Market Street corridor. The architecture features fine Victorians to modern masterpieces, often sculpted to feature the stellar views.

Stone steps and monument of Mount Olympus

Corona Heights Park: This park has a large open space with panoramic views of San Francisco and the bay area, plus an elaborate dog run.

Randall Museum: Located within Corona Heights Park, the museum is a touchstone for many local families. Hands-on art, interactive exhibits, shows, science classes, and wildlife exhibits make it a must-visit spot for the toddler set.

Staircases: Enjoy an adventure up one of Corona Height's delightful stairways. Vulcan Stairs and Saturn Street Steps are among the top 12 staircases in San Francisco. Discover the lesser-known Mt. Olympus Stairway that leads up to an obelisk monument and the scenic Monument Way Stairs.
